Wednesday broke our record for miles and rode 33 miles! My butt was soo sore haha but it was awesome! On0y problem was my blood sugar suffered overnight. When someone with type 1 diabetes does an intense workout, blood sugar can do weird things hours later. At 3am I woke up with a blood sugar of 38 (normal is about 100). Not fun.
Anyways, while bikrng I received several emails offering auction items so I now have a golf swing evaluation, brigantine gift card and jobe sports gift basket. Then today I got this super cool electric toothbrush from my orthodontist. The icing on the cake was a gift certificate from Al's Ski Barn came in the mail.
Sweeeet:-)
And I officially have a camelback tan;-)
On October 20,2012 my dad and I will bike 90 miles through Death Valley to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Each 10 miles represents a year with diabetes for me and a year of people I have met touched by diabetes. I will be posting fundraising and training updates. Thanks for visiting! Why I raise money for JDRF and updates
Artificial pancreas trial for type 1 diabetes a success
JDRF has been funding an artificial pancreas for a while. Its not a cure, but its light years better than what we have now. Basically it'd be a machine implanted in you which would test your blood sugar and give you insulin to lower it or glucagon to raise it. Kind of like a pacemaker for people with heart problems. Id love a real cure but this is such an amazing technology that ill be super happy with this right now.
Last weekend my dad and I rode 20 miles....not that far compared to what we've been doing but we also climbed a hill to 800ft elevation. That was awesome to conquer.
Finally, as of today we have raised $3997.42. Less than $3 away for $4000! Yay!

A Month of Updates
First, my fundraising is going GREAT!! We are now at $3,300. That is awesome! :) I have had some amazing generous donations. I have had a few complete strangers donate. If you are reading this, thank you so much. You are so inspiring. I have also had some friends donate. Some small some big all greatly appreciated. So thank you to my awesome friends for taking a little out of your paycheck to cure diabetes.
Second, training is going pretty well. Our rides are now around 30 miles. We will pick up a lot more this summer as both my dad and I will be on summer break from work and will have a lot more time to ride.
Third, I had a Rubios fundraiser last week and had over 40 people attend. It was lots of fun with great food. Thanks to all who went to support me. I'm planning a Souplantation fundraiser for July so get your appetites ready!!
Fourth, 92129 Magazine just recently published an article on me. If you're not lucky enough to live in 92129 you can read it online here: http://www.92129magazine.com/2012/05/a-passion-for-life-and-a-drive-to-find-a-cure-for-diabetes/ . Thanks Zeena for a well written article and some great photos!!
Fifth, I was the star of a documentary that will be available this fall. I cannot reveal details online but I can tell you that I had the entire crew in San Diego for over 12 hours and they interviewed me and my parents, followed me to work, watched me play soccer, and even went wakeboarding with me. It was soo fun!!!
Finally, mark your calendars for Saturday August 25. I will be having a fundraiser event with paella, music, free coffee bean, massages, a silent auction, and good friends. I am very excited! I'm looking for donations of things to auction off.
I'm off to go sell raffle tickets at some little league games. I'll leave you with a few photos.
